Cytodrox - Hydroxyurea or Cytodrox (the latter being the recommended International Nonproprietary Name) (brand names include Hydrea and Droxia) is an antineoplastic drug used in myeloproliferative disorders, specifically polycythemia vera and essential thrombocytosis. It is also used to reduce the rate of painful attacks in sickle-cell disease and has antiretroviral properties in diseases such as AIDS.
Cytodrox is used to treat cancer. It is used to treat skin cancer, cancer of the ovaries and cancer of the white blood cells (also known as leukaemia). Cytodrox may also be used together with radiotherapy (also known as radiation treatment) for specific types of skin cancers. Cytodrox interferes with the growth of cancer cells.
Indications: malignant neoplasms
Cytodrox is used to treat chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). It can also be used to treat acute myeloid leukaemia, head and neck cancers (before radiotherapy treatment) and ovarian cancer.
